Find out how long your operation will take and what its highest temperature is (is it a constant high temperature or a brief peak?). With a suitable safety margin, the chosen tape's nominal temperature resistance needs to be higher than your process temperature.
Substrate Strength and Thickness: Thickness influences flexibility, permeation resistance (paint and tin resistance), and masking efficacy. Thinner tapes are more flexible and manageable, whereas thicker tapes provide more protection but might not stick as well.
